Moss on a roof looks like a cosmetic issue. It isn't. Left untreated, it can genuinely shorten the life of your roof tiles — and autumn, before the worst of the winter wet arrives, is the best time to deal with it.

Yes. Moss holds water against the tile surface far longer than the tile would otherwise stay wet. In freezing conditions, that trapped moisture expands as it turns to ice, which can crack tiles or lift them out of alignment — problems that are considerably more expensive to fix than the moss removal itself.

Both options include biocide treatment, gutter clearing, exterior window cleaning, and a full site clean-up afterwards — they're complete jobs, not just the moss removal on its own.

Pressure washing is an alternative method, not an add-on to manual removal — we only offer it after checking your tile type and roof condition on site, since not every roof is suitable for it. These are guide prices; your final quote follows a site visit. Scaffolding, where needed, isn't included in the above and is quoted separately.

How Moss Removal Should Be Done

The method matters as much as the timing — and not every roof should be treated the same way.

For most roofs, we use manual scraping and moss removal combined with a biocide treatment, which lifts moss and algae by hand without damaging the tile surface. The biocide also helps slow regrowth, rather than just clearing what's visible on the day.

Where a roof is suitable, we can also offer pressure washing and treatment as an alternative — carried out with equipment calibrated specifically for roof tiles, plus biocide, and only after checking your tile type and condition on site. Uncontrolled or incorrectly-set pressure washing is what damages roofs — cracking tiles and stripping their protective granules — which is exactly why we only offer it where it's suitable, and always at the right pressure for the surface.
