Driveway & Patio Cleaning: Before, After and What to Expect

A driveway or patio rarely needs replacing to look new again — it needs cleaning properly, with the right pressure for the surface.

A driveway or patio doesn't need to be replaced to look new again — most of the time, it just needs cleaning properly, with the right pressure and the right approach for the surface.

What Actually Happens During a Professional Clean

Every surface is different, and treating them all the same way is one of the most common DIY mistakes. Block paving, natural stone, timber decking and fencing all respond differently to pressure — too much force on the wrong surface can strip protective coatings or damage the jointing sand between paving blocks.

We use pressure washing, adjusting the method to suit the surface rather than using one setting for everything. That is a big part of why the results look better, and last longer, than a quick pass with a rented pressure washer.

How Much Does Driveway Cleaning Cost?

Our driveway and patio pressure washing starts from £5 per m², with a £120 minimum charge.

As a rough illustration of how that works (examples only, based on the starting rate):

  • 20 m²: the £120 minimum applies
  • 40 m²: from £200
  • 60 m²: from £300

The final quote depends on the surface type, size, condition, access and drainage. Weed or moss treatment, difficult stain removal, re-sanding and sealing are quoted separately if needed. We confirm what's included and agree the price before starting the work, so there are no surprises on the day.

Before and After: What to Expect

A driveway that's gone several years without cleaning typically has black algae staining in shaded or damp areas, moss growing in the joints between blocks, and a general grey or dull tone across the whole surface — even if it was originally a much lighter colour.

After a professional clean, block paving in particular tends to look dramatically different, because the original colour of the blocks is usually still there under the grime — it's simply been hidden by years of build-up.
